Blood of the Nations

Blood of the Nations Review

Blood of the Nations Overview

Accept’s history dates back to the days when heavy metal was just in its formative stages. The band’s first incarnation was put together in `68, but their first album came in `79. Over the course of their early career, they’ve written several influential songs and albums and helped define what heavy metal has become. Their most famous song, “Balls to the Wall”, has been featured in Guitar Hero Encore: The 80s, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, 08′s Oscar Award-winning movie The Wrestler and was #38 on VH1′s Top 40 “Greatest Metal Songs”. That album has even gone Gold in the US according to Billboard, no small feat for the genre! Now, after a decade away from the heavy metal scene, Accept have returned with a renewed strength, enthusiasm and a new album that hits you with that unmistakable, classic sound. Blood of the Nations is every bit as voluminous as the band’s legendary releases with new metal anthems that carry on their legendary tradition. This vibrant and mesmerizing album harnesses everything that earned Accept the status of true heavy metal legends: thunderous riffs, blinding guitar leads, aggressive vocals and infectious, undiluted metal songs with a bite that are destined to once again put Accept ahead of the pack.

Metal – A Headbanger’s Journey Review

Metal – A Headbanger’s Journey Feature

  • Sam Dunn, a 30-year old anthropologist, decided to study the plight of a different culture, one he has been a part of since he was a 12-year-old: the culture of heavy metal. Sam sets out on a global journey to find out why this music has been consistently stereotyped, dismissed and condemned and yet is loved so passionately by its millions of fans. Along the way, Sam explores metals obsession with

Metal - A Headbanger's Journey is a labor of love for director/ producer Sam Dunn; anthropologist, academia, metalhead. Like a good anthropologist Dunn has often wondered about cultures, societies, and the key elements that makes them thrive. Being a life-long headbanger, Sam Dunn decided to turn his academic skills onto himself to study and attempt to explain the often misunderstood culture that shaped his existence and millions of others around the world. Structured like a traditional anthropological journal, Metal - A Headbanger's Journey is broken into sections such as "Origins," "Roots," "Environments," "Culture," "Sexuality," "Religion," and "Death." Many topics are addressed such as identifying the first heavy metal band, what in the music defines the heavy metal sound, why heavy metal unites fans from around the world, why the music has been a target for so many watchdog groups, and who really popularized the heavy metal horn salute. For non-metalheads, the structured approach keeps the documentary on track and prevents it from getting cartoonish and too fan-based and self congratulatory. Metalheads that don't care about film's structure, will thoroughly enjoy the interviews of metal's elite (including originators Tony Iommi, Alice Cooper, Dio, and Bruce Dickinson to modern day heroes Tom Morello, Rob Zombie and Lamb of God) the music, fan commentaries and the concert footage. So raise your horns up high, turn it up loud and check out the best Heavy Metal film ever made. Metal - A Headbanger's Journey will not disappoint. --Rob Bracco]

Ride the Lightning Review

Ride the Lightning Overview

Japanese only SHM pressing. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies’ research into LCD display manufacturing SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players. Universal. 2009.

[if Don't let that classical-guitar-ish opening to "Fight Fire with Fire" fool you--Ride the Lightning packs a heavy-metal wallop. While not as ambitious as the subsequent Master of Puppets, this early Metallica album is indubitably one of their best. Thematically, it explores death and dying from myriad points of view: nuclear war ("Fight Fire with Fire"), electric-chair execution (the title track), and drowning ("Trapped Under Ice"). Interestingly, the best track on this album is probably "Fade to Black," a slower, more introspective song about suicide. There's also "Creeping Death," which remains a concert favorite. An excellent mix of rapid-fire guitar riffs, rip-roaring solos, and singer James Hetfield's trademark growl, this is thrash metal at its finest. Very highly recommended. --Genevieve Williams]

Hdtv – Plasma or Lcd – Know The Differences

Posted: 25 Nov 2010 10:57 AM PST

The plasma Hdtv is the one you will hear praised the most as it has more pixels, which are suppose to supply great image quality. However, there are many faults with plasmas that you should be aware of before you purchase.

Viewing angle

With a Plasma Hdtv, the only viewing angle is right in front of the screen. If you are off to one side, the image will be distorted or darkened enough you cannot tell what is happening on the screen. Lcd Hdtv’s are more like a computer screen and the views from all angles are the same.

Lighting in the Room

Plasma Hdtv’s must be viewed in a dark room if you truly want to see a great image. The light in the room will have quite a bit to do with the capability of the image. Once again, the Lcd is not changed whether you are in a spirited room or a dark room.

Protection

Plasma Tv’s need a bit more care when spirited as if you tip the screen, you will out the money you paid for the set as it will ruin the television. Plasma Tv’s cannot be tipped while transportation home from the store or as you are carrying into the home. It must stay in an upright position. Lcd Tv’s can be moved colse to in any angle for spirited purposes, so you can certainly lie it on its side to put it in the back of a pickup and not worry about damage.

Cost

Plasma’s can be found in all ranges of price and are ordinarily less expensive than Lcd’s.

Metal Circus

Metal Circus Review

Metal Circus Overview

This is the album on which the monster that was Hüsker Dü truly came alive. From here on out, this Minneapolis trio would define new directions and open new vistas for rock music with every release. Bob Mould’s spectacularly demented lead work and furious vocal delivery are driven to a frenzied pace by drummer Grant Hart and bassist Greg Norton. At times, as on the incredible opener, “Real World,” the naked aggression and speed is hard to withstand. “It’s Not Funny Anymore” is a great anthem, striking a blow against conformity and hinting at the pop territory the band would go on to explore more fully on future outings. “Diane,” with Hart on lead vocal, is a ballad of sorts–and probably one of the most horrifying in the history of rock. –Mike Corrigan

Cars: Lightning Mcqueen’s Fast Tracks Review

Cars: Lightning Mcqueen’s Fast Tracks Overview

Rev up with Disney’s Cars! Lightening McQueen’s Fast Tracks, My Wonderful Car, Black and White Thunderbird, Road Trip, You Can’t Catch Me, Rocking Little Roadster, On the Road Again.

[if Every once in a while, Disney pairs a score-heavy soundtrack to a major film with something a little lighter. Cars doesn't fit the bill--its soundtrack is star-studded (John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, James Taylor) and its score, by Randy Newman, is about as accessible as they come. So chalk up Fast Tracks--Lightning McQueen's lighthearted and wholly likable companion piece to Cars: The Soundtrack--to the outsized persona with which his creators gifted him. McQueen, a pedal-to-the-metal kind of character, has tunes coming out his mighty tailpipe: between Gunnar Nelson's "Rocking Little Roadster," Joy Lynn White's "You Can't Catch Me," and Kevin Montgomery's earnest, dust-coated cover of Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again," he takes classic rock, rockabilly, and straight-up country for a spin; elsewhere, pop, folk, and blues fasten their seatbelts. It's a slightly twang-heavy melange, but McQueen rotates his sounds as reliably as his tires--credit him (or, more accurately, the corporate folks who keep his engines running) with concocting a roll-down-the-windows-and-shout worthy soundtrack of his own. --Tammy La Gorce]

Light in the Dark

Light in the Dark Review

Light in the Dark Overview

The legend returns: Metal Church are scheduled to release their latest album, A Light In The Dark, reanimating the zeitgeist of their first two releases, Metal Church (1985) and The Dark (1986). “It's almost precisely twenty years ago that we shook up the international metal scene for the first time with those two recordings,” recalls guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof. “Just the right moment to bring that era to mind with a brand new album and the same sort of energy that we had back then”. The current band line-up consists of Kurdt Vanderhoof (guitar), Ronny Munroe (vocals), Jay Reynolds (guitar), Steve Unger (bass) and new addition Jeff Plate (drums; ex-Savatage). “I've known Jeff since my solo tour with Savatage,” Vanderhoof recalls. “And during the 2005 Metal Church tour, when he drummed with opening act Chris Caffery's band, we also got on really well. So it suggested itself to ask him whether he wanted to join Metal Church”. Vanderhoof, who doubles as sound engineer and producer during the recordings, promises an offering featuring all the important trademarks of typical Metal Church tracks, including a new version of the classic We Watch The Children Pray as a tribute to vocalist David Wayne, who passed away in May 2005. “A Light In The Dark will represent what the name Metal Church has been standing for the last twenty years.”
