Rating 4.0 This replacement of an old gem was a welcome addition to my Zeppelin collection. I know I owned this many years ago but there are a few gaps in the memory over those years lol. Year: 1976 Director: Peter Clifton, Joe Massot Starring: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, John Paul Jones Led Zeppelin – The Song Remains the Same [Blu-ray] Specifications For Led Zeppelin fanatics, this 1976 feature The Song Remains the Same is a treasure of searing live performances, particularly welcome in light of the sad scarcity of such visual material from the band’s great decade. Despite the group’s road weariness after a long tour, their final, three-night stand at Madison Square Garden in 1973 was full of the old power. Performances of “No Quarter,” “Whole Lotta Love,” “Black Dog,” “Dazed and Confused,” and “Stairway to Heaven” underscore Zep’s charisma. Trouble is, you don’t get an unbroken performance here. Viewers have to wade through a mishmash of documentary insight into the lives of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones, as well as fantasy sequences supposedly inspired by the thoughts and fantasies of the band’s individual members. It’s mostly garish and silly, but there are some nice elements, especially insights into the late Bonham’s life. The DVD doesn’t offer much in the way of add-ons (a theatrical trailer is about it), but there is also enhanced viewing for 16 x 9 televisions. –Tom Keogh Customer Reviews CHEAP PACKAGING – Joanna Sharon Aubuchon Dyer – OAKLAND, CA, USA Since there’s plenty of reviews concerning the movie I wanted to focus on the packaging. When this edition was announced I was quite excited to get my hands on a copy. I was more interested in the packaging including the shirt and other extras not included with the other editions of this release. I’ll cut to the chase. The outer box is made from flimsy cardboard that can be easily damaged. I bought several extra copies since I wanted to have at least one sealed since I’m a collector. Both of those copies arrived damaged and I don’t blame the dealers but whoever the brainchild was whom created this version. These two were also cut out copies. Upon opening my original copy I couldn’t help but notice the cheap quality of the shirt included. Very thin cotton and after about 6 months of use there’s not much left of shirt and it looks very worn now. For the most part I’m very displeased with the material used for this set marketed as ‘Collector’s Edition” I think more thought could have gone into this and considering the original price when released, it should have!!! “ Their are two versions of the “Collector’s Edition. I believe when originally released, their was material used that Zeppelin did not own the copyright to nor get permission to use so it was discontinued quickly. This version has white symbols like the picture used for this review. The second version omits this material and has black symbols which is more than likely what you will receive when ordering. You might want to check with your dealers to confirm what your getting and I’m still looking for the white symbols box. I love Led Zeppelin, but this is a horrible movie! – Kirkwall – world traveler I saw this movie in the theater when it was released in 1976. It was such a disappointment that I came very close to leaving half way through. It is a vacuous, sterile and narcistic ego-project for their then manager Peter Grant. I have been a fan since I first heard John Bonham’s incredibly innovative and unexpected drum intro to their first song of their first album in 1969, “Good Times, Bad Times”. This poorly made movie does Zep no service. Led Zep – HawgRyder – NorCal Good dvd, especially since they will never play togeather again.
