Another “lost gem”!
Superbe Magna Carta studio album, Chris’ songs are as good as ever and Davey, why on earth did you leave them for Reginald?
Essential to all music lovers, but maybe you should listen to Magna Carta’s “Lord of the Ages” and “Seasons” first.

NIGHT SONGS (12” LP VINYL PICTURE DISC)

AVG. Rating 4.5

Cinderella is often and unfortunately written off as being a horrible 80s’ hair band. That’s not true, in fact they rocked far more than that, this description is due mostly because they are generally associated with the genre and the band is better than they are said to be. Yes there is glam here but also rock and their blues influences show, perhaps not as much as they did on the Heartbreak Station album and during the early 90s but they are there. After being signed to Mercury at Jon Bon Jovi’s suggestion (KISS’s Gene Simmons had tried previously but couldn’t get them a recording contract) Cinderella’s debut album Night Songs came out in 1986 during the explosion of the hair metal genre and their sound made them a hit their album reaching # 3 in Billboard in 1987.

They certainly have some glam in their music, Nobody’s Fool is just that, Nights Songs as well to a lesser extend and some lyrics are glam but the fact is that this album rocks more than the average glam band’s does. Tell me that Back Home Again doesn’t rock! Sure the album has an overall glam feeling to it but like Motley Crue (this is not a comparison of the two band at all ) they rock harder than most hair bands. This album while it is considered glam certainly doesn’t much happy, in fact it’s pretty dark. They had great songs and I still enjoy them to this day. They were MTV darlings with their catchy song and glam looks and hit ballads but they should still be taken seriously, the music here is quite good!

My favorite songs here are the title track, the hit ballad Nobody’s Fool, Shake Me, Somebody Save Me and Back Home Again. Cinderella is much heavier than their name suggests and is one of the better hair bands of the 80s. They had some great songs and I love Tom Keifer’s AC DC-like but rougher vocals and guitar playing. Unfortunately they didn’t release any new material after 1994 and only had 4 studio albums but they are still touring. If you want to listen to some good hair-metal this may not me THE place to start but they are worth a listen. If you’re looking to expand your rock, glam-metal library try this band. Either buy this one or the 2005 Rocked, Wired and Bluesed: The Greatest Hits compilation, don’t be a fool!

An absolute hair metal classic!! – sharky –
This CD should definitely be in any hair metal top 25 of all time. Although a bit short on the time, there is not a bad song on here. This flat out rocks hard from start to finish. Their second release has more depth to it, but it is hard to dispute the greatness of an album when you like ALL the songs on it! That just doesn’t happen very often.

Beast of a Rock’n'Roll Album – Ronodean – Indianapolis, IN USA
Cinderella’s Night Songs is a rock album that will live forever because of the great song writing, vocals, and great guitar work. There is not much else to say that hasnt already been said. I do want to let fans of Cinderella know about Jeff LaBar’s new project called Freakshow. Its a great opportunity to hear new stuff from labar. Its an amazing self titled album on Retrospect Records and Im telling you that dissapointment is not an option with the album. Also front man of Freakshow Marcus Allen Christopher has a simalar sound to Tom Keifer. Trust me if you love Cinderella you’ll love Freakshow. Until a new Cinderella album comes out, what else do you have to do? lol hope you guys check it out.

One of the few “80s metal” bands that I can still listen to. – David Christopher – Ann Arbor, MI
Basically, the title of my review says it all. I listened to a lot of 80s metal back in the day. I can barely make it through one Poison or Ratt song now but for some reason I can listen to this all the way through. Great guitar hooks. Nice blues and metal mix with the two guitars. Actually, this is a great album to run or bike to.
