| NIGHT SONGS (12” LP VINYL PICTURE DISC) Posted: 24 Oct 2010 11:12 AM PDT NIGHT SONGS (12” LP VINYL PICTURE DISC)AVG. Rating 4.5Cinderella is often and unfortunately written off as being a horrible 80s’ hair band. That’s not true, in fact they rocked far more than that, this description is due mostly because they are generally associated with the genre and the band is better than they are said to be. Yes there is glam here but also rock and their blues influences show, perhaps not as much as they did on the Heartbreak Station album and during the early 90s but they are there. After being signed to Mercury at Jon Bon Jovi’s suggestion (KISS’s Gene Simmons had tried previously but couldn’t get them a recording contract) Cinderella’s debut album Night Songs came out in 1986 during the explosion of the hair metal genre and their sound made them a hit their album reaching # 3 in Billboard in 1987. They certainly have some glam in their music, Nobody’s Fool is just that, Nights Songs as well to a lesser extend and some lyrics are glam but the fact is that this album rocks more than the average glam band’s does. Tell me that Back Home Again doesn’t rock! Sure the album has an overall glam feeling to it but like Motley Crue (this is not a comparison of the two band at all ) they rock harder than most hair bands. This album while it is considered glam certainly doesn’t much happy, in fact it’s pretty dark. They had great songs and I still enjoy them to this day. They were MTV darlings with their catchy song and glam looks and hit ballads but they should still be taken seriously, the music here is quite good! My favorite songs here are the title track, the hit ballad Nobody’s Fool, Shake Me, Somebody Save Me and Back Home Again. Cinderella is much heavier than their name suggests and is one of the better hair bands of the 80s. They had some great songs and I love Tom Keifer’s AC DC-like but rougher vocals and guitar playing. Unfortunately they didn’t release any new material after 1994 and only had 4 studio albums but they are still touring. If you want to listen to some good hair-metal this may not me THE place to start but they are worth a listen. If you’re looking to expand your rock, glam-metal library try this band. Either buy this one or the 2005 Rocked, Wired and Bluesed: The Greatest Hits compilation, don’t be a fool!
